If you've got a room you don't love (read: everyone), you're probably dying to totally redo it. And sure, gutting the room to its bones, adding brand-neweverything, and plunking down your life savings is one way to get it done — but it's not the only way.
Before, there was nothing necessarily "wrong" with this kitchen, which belongs to Jen Pinkston, the blogger behind The Effortless Chic. The simple space had the white cabinetry, classic black-and-white flooring, and stainless steel appliances that made it feel totally up to snuff — but it lacked some serious personality and didn't feel like home.

Pinkston enlisted the help of online tile boutique Modwalls to pick out the 3x6 glass tile in Surf she used for her new backsplash. The light blue-green color pops against the still-white kitchen and brings new life to the space.
But the new backsplash combined with the existing chrome hardware made the space feel like a retro diner — not what Jen was going for. Instead of buying new knobs, Pinkston bought a can of copper paint to give her pulls a more subdued look. Bright accessories like a blue colander, copper bowls, and a neon hand towel balanced out the bold backsplash, while wooden cutting boards and white silicone utensils kept the kitchen from looking like a rainbow.
